Coating & Embellishment – Harris & Bruno

Digital embellishment – Harris & Bruno

The Harris & Bruno ZRX digital embellishment press is now available in the UK through CyanX. This is the form of the groundbreaking ZRX Digital Embellishment press, based on a B1 platform.

Offering flood coating, digital spot coating, tactile raised coatings, and foiling, all in one single pass – thus vastly removing the complexity of embellishing print – the device was a standout at the drupa exhibition, garnering significant attention for its advanced capabilities in this value-added sphere.

The ZRX offers unparalleled quality and efficiency for a wide range of printing applications. Its ability to digitally embellish uncoated media safely, without the need for lamination, and the ability to create raised matte tactile effect is a game changer for the digital embellishment world.

Whilst traditional embellishment methods can take hours or even days to finish, the ZRX brings this down to minutes, saving time and cost. Added to this, the device also offers automated systems for set up and wash up – again saving time.

File modification or corrections can be carried out directly from the user interface, so no need to take files back into pre-press.

The embellishment press also allows users to save repeat jobs in memory for quick and easy recall, again minimising set up time.

For safety, the device comes with sheet monitoring carried out on various sensors to help reduce accidents. With features such as sheet tracking and automatic lifting of the dryer, the coater can help minimise problems before they occur.

The press aligns the powerful H&B Chamber-Anilox System with industry-leading inkjet technology – from 22 inkjet heads set in two arrays of 11 –  to offer new embellishment opportunities not available before.

This technology means that the printer can add a barrier coating to substrates to allow an impervious layer on to which the inkjet polymer and/or foil can be applied. This means that substrates do not need any lamination.

  • No lamination of substrates is required; embellish on uncoated media in a single pass.
  • AQ and UV flood coating applications.
  • Flat and tactile coating and foil effects; exclusive new xMatte and xFoil effects.
  • A VisionMatrix scanner registers and compensates for any digital distortion on every single sheet for high-quality output.
  • Coating speed: 61 metres per minute (specialised coatings/substrates and embellishment may require reduced speeds); B2 landscape flood coat only – up to 6300 sheets per hour; B2 landscape spot coat – up to 4200 sheets per hour; B2 landscape foil – up to 2300 sheets per hour.
  • Foil speed: up to 2300 sheets per hour.
  • Substrate thickness: maximum: 0.60 mm, minimum: 0.15 mm.
  • Substrate Format size: maximum 1066 x 750 mm, minimum: 420 x 297 mm.
  • Set up times: flood coating – automated set up is five minutes, automated wash up is 10 minutes; spot coating automated set up is 10 minutes, automated wash up is five minutes.
  • Floor space requirement: 13.7 x 2.1 x 2 metres.

Flood coating for sheet – Harris & Bruno

For use in line or offline to a wide range of digital presses, the ZR aqueous and UV coater is a modular and versatile machine engineered for advanced automation, high throughput, and quick changeovers.

The ‘Quick-Change System’ allows for fast changes of anilox and applicators, while the coating circulator’s automated wash cycle makes clean-up easy.

Automated adjustments, fast changeovers, and a 50-memory storage facility to efficiently set up repeat jobs offer the ability to coat a wide assortment of print variables, quickly and easily.

Through incorporating an H&B chamber/anilox metering system, the machine consistently lays down matte, soft touch, aqueous, specialty UV, and outstanding gloss.

  • Sheet tracking sensors are installed throughout the length of the machine.
  • Full-length vacuum conveyor.
  • Pallet-accessible high pile feeder and stacker.
  • Modular system to keep pace with your requirements.
  • Easy access anilox and applicator rolls; easy access lamp chamber.
  • Automatic wash-up system.
  • Quick setup and easy retrieval of repeat jobs.

Flood and spot coating for inkjet web – Harris & Bruno

The Harris & Bruno ZRW offers high-speed, fully automated coating for inkjet web applications.

The machine can be set up at the touch of a button. Previous/repeat jobs and settings can also be accessed with ease. There is no turning knobs or fine-tuning every time.

The fully automated ZRW features a quick change sleeve system for both anilox and applicator rolls, which allows for job changes in minutes. Equipped with the H&B chamber/anilox system, the ZRW is perfect for the application of aqueous and UV coatings, as well as primers. Just a few of applications include matte, soft touch, grit, glitter, and a smooth as-glass gloss.

Wash up between coating chemistries is also automated. The ZRW is compatible with a wide range of digital presses from a variety of manufacturers – online, offline, or near-line.

  • Centralised PLC with touch screen allows users to benefit from quick setup; save and recall up to 50 jobs from memory.
  • Automated wash up: dedicated coating circulators prevent cross-contamination.
  • Modular system to allow for future add-ons.
  • Shuttered lamps prevent fires; easy access to the UV lamp cassettes.
  • Automatic wash-up system.
